2. How has Yishun changed from the past to present?
In the past, Yishun used to be rubber and pineapple plantations. Yishun was also inhabitant by nomadic boat-dwellers known a orang seletar. In 1976, the Yishun New Town Project was initiated to develop the areas that were once known as the Nee Soon district. 907 hectare of land was allocated for public housing and industrial development. The town was designed for convenience in mind. Schools, markets, religious buildings, community buildings, shopping malls and recreational facilities are located within easy reach of residents.
Northpoint Shopping Centre
Northpoint City is the first and largest integrated mixed development in Northern Singapore. It serves as a vibrant lifestyle, recreation, and transportation hub. Northpoint features two retail wings, the 920-unit North Park Residences, community spaces, an air-conditioned bus interchange, and an underground retail link with direct access to Yishun MRT station.

In addition to a diverse range of retail offerings, the North Wing features over 50 food and beverage concepts, including family favourites Wee Nam Kee Chicken Rice and Tenderfresh. The South Wing has a second food court in addition to a speciality food precinct named “The Makan Town”, an education cluster, as well as other thematic shopping zones. To better cater to the needs of the community around Northpoint City, a new underground retail link will provide the public with seamless and comfortable access between Northpoint City, the Yishun bus interchange and Yishun MRT Station. The fully air-conditioned retail link will feature over 30 retail and quick serve concepts for added convenience to commuters.
A gathering point for the community – first community club in a shopping mallWith a community club, a rooftop community garden, a public library, a town plaza the size of 10 basketball courts and a line-up of lifestyle and retail offerings curated to serve the community, Northpoint City is the key venue of community interaction and activities. The Nee Soon Central Community Club located in the South Wing of the mall is the first Community Club in Singapore to be housed in a shopping mall. The Yishun Public Library is also available on Level 4 of the North Wing. The shopping mall also has created additional space for community-focused services. Such community-centric tenants include Little Arts Academy, as well as childcare centre The Orange Academy.

3. What have we learnt from the survey?
Based on the survey results, we can say that the residents in Yishun are happy and satisfied staying in Yishun and they do not consider of moving out of Yishun. Based on the rating of the facilities, more residents do not consider to move out of yishun. Based on the rating of the facilities, more residents do not consider to move out of Yishun. Most residents are satisfied with:
-sites that are focused on nature
-facilities for residents (playgrounds, fitness corners)
-transportation(MRT, Bus)
-amenities for food places
-mixed facilities
4. I think it is true as the more the amenities and facilities in Yishun, the stronger the sense of belonging among the residents. They would be able to spend time with their family members and enjoy the amenities and facilities. This will promote close bonds with thier family members and give them fond memories of Yishun. The distinctive features of the amenities and facilities will also give them fond memories of Yishun.
5. Other facilities and amenities for Yishun is as follows:
-have a museum that showcases the history and distinctive features of Yishun in the past so that the residents are more aware of it
- have a water theme park like sengkang and jurong swimming complex
-more hawker centers that sell a varieties for the residents to enjoy
